A day full of cooking...and inspiration for the bakeoff!

Lucille going to work.

my cookies cut from my new pastry cutters from Williams Sonoma!

the new recipe for easy rolls made from yeast and bisquick. they taste just like the rolls from Connestoga Steak House from back home. The recipe is a keeper. They were so easy and quick!
Last night while I was laying in bed, I stayed up for an extra hour just thinking about the bake off! I am so excited about it! How cool would it be to win  a PILLSBURY BAKE OFF!

My inspiration:
#1-Homemade Pimento Cheese and then make crackers/chips out of either Pillsbury pizza dough or crescent rolls with seasoning
#2-apple pizza with caramel (boiled condensed milk) and a toffee sauce.

My love-baking!

These are the cakes that I made for Michelle and Leanne's birthday party. They were awesome. This picture makes them look like they are leaning, but they weren't...I promise. Everyone loved the cake. In the middle, there was an indention for filling. I can't wait to make some more cakes from these mini pans.

This was before the "Spring Sing". Michelle had the leading part and had to sing a solo! She did awesome! We made this sign for her to cheer her on!

Gone with the Wind

Food is always good, for any special occasion, whether it be Christmas or just a hot sunny summer day sitting on the veranda. Food makes us southerners happy. We need to be aware of what we take into our bodies. Somethings that we do take, can be harmful to us and to the land our daddies have plowed day after day, and might cause our southern soldiers to not be able to fight for the south. We need to tell our children about the difference between inorganic and organic food. My grandma always said, "honey, eat your fruits and vegetables." But did she know what those farmers grow them in and on? They use manure and other waste. That could make us ladies sick and have to use our smelling salts. We need to eat that organic food. It is pure, and good for the soul and the land. We need to eat because it is grown naturally with out the use of sprays and other chemical things!

I imitated the voice of my author by using lots of imagery and adjectives. This gives us a real picture of what I am talking about. Margaret Mitchell, in Gone with the Wind, never left out a single detail. We never had to figure something out for ourselves. She gave it to us. We knew everything. This is important to do in this paper so it does not leave the reader hanging and wondering about certain words, phrases, and terms. I also used some references to it being in a southern atmosphere. It is always good to let the reader know background information.

I'm interested in...

My favorite thing to do is cook. I love to cook anything and everything. One of my favorites parts, is finding the perfect recipe for the situation. I like to look at all my cookbooks, at recipes online, and recipes from family members. I like to try different things. But there is something special about cooking a family favorite. My grandparents, when i was back home, used to drive an hour almost every Sunday to come eat dinner with us. I loved it. I looked forward to it every week. It really started my week off great. I loved the days, when I didn't have homework and could cook the whole meal, with dessert of course, for my family. I would always send "a little something sweet" with my Papa every time he came to visit. He loved it and brings back his "goodies" tray for me to fill up every time. Cooking and baking makes me happy and it also makes the the people around me happy. I like to learn to cook new things. I remember back in the winter, my dad showed me how to make his grandmother's recipes "cathead biscuits". There was a proper technique and way to do stir and sift and cook the biscuits. It was fun to see the correct way, or the way my great grandmother had taught him to make the biscuits.

I love getting to know people. Although I can come off shy, it is so neat to see how everyone in this world is so different and unique. Coming to BYU, has been a great experience for me. I am glad that I have gotten to know so many new people.

I love just staying at home with my family. I have never been someone to just go and do all the time. I like to visit with my parents and hear stories from their childhood. My younger brother, who is 17 months younger than, is my best friend. We have so much fun together. We have so many traditions that we did before we left. Every Sunday night, we would ding dong ditch the missionaries in our ward, leaving them quotes and something to eat on their door step. I really grew to know my brother this past year. I love how we are so close together. I like him being able to come and talk to me about problems that he has.

I like exercising. It is my favorite thing to do, especially when I am stressed and just want some time for myself. I like the way I feel afterwards. It is possibly the best feeling. I have always been interested in nutrition and keeping my body in shape. That is way I am going to major in nutrition.

I love kids. I have always loved to babysit. I once thought I wanted to be an elementary school teacher, but the more I thought about it, the more I didn't want to do it. I don't want to be around kids all day, and then come home to my future kids and be sick of them, because of teaching. I want to enjoy them.

Inside Every Woman

The commercial, “Inside Every Woman,” made by Gillette’s Venus Razor is targeted for women. The commercial portrays women that are younger to middle aged, around the age of 20 to 30. The audience intended to be for any woman who wants to feel great and have nice, smooth legs. The commercial portrays that the only way to feel great is if you shave your legs with the Venus Razor. The women used in this commercial are all in shape with perfectly toned, tanned, shaved legs. The commercial takes place in many different areas around the world. All of the women performing are doing different things, like dancing, singing, running, painting, and swimming. Every snapshot is of a women caressing her legs and feeling how smooth they are from shaving with the “Venus Razor.” It creates a thought in the viewers mind that only Gillette’s Venus Razor could give you the best results and that any other razor would not give good results. The music played in the background creates a happy, energetic mood that makes the viewer want to have good legs so that they can be active and happy.
This commercial, of course, is geared mainly toward women and how they should feel great if they look great. It uses appeals mainly to emotion, or Ethos, to create the mood that Gillette wanted. Gillette shows how confident and carefree the girls in the commercial are to show off their legs. This act of pride shows us that if we use the product, we too can look and feel that good.
The song being played in the background has a big part on what kind of mood is portrayed. “Inside every woman there is mystery and magic, power and passion, spirit and substance. Inside every woman there is a goddess waiting to be discovered. Discover her with Venus. Venus razor helps to leave skin silky smooth, revealing a more beautiful you, every time you shave. VENUS-reveal the goddess in you.” This song promises you that if you use Gillette’s razor, then you will look and feel like a goddess. If you do not use it, then your inner goddess will never be revealed. The commercial also tells us that using this product will make you feel like a new woman.
The commercial not only is geared toward the younger to middle aged woman, but also to the fit, athletic ones. In the commercial, every woman is slender and doing something active. They feel comfortable with themselves not only because they are in shape, but because of their smooth silky legs created by the Venus Razor.
This commercial does a good job of trying to sell their product-the Venus Razor. Gillette wants everyone to reveal their goddess in them. The only way they can reveal their inner beauty and goddess is by using the Venus Razor to get silky smooth legs. By using the razor, Gillette says you can have power, passion, spirit, and substance.
